Ring Sizing Guide
A perfectly sized ring is essential to comfort and security. Use our guide to find your ideal fit with confidence.
How to Measure Your Ring Size
There are several reliable methods to determine your ring size at home. For the most accurate result, we recommend using more than one method and comparing the measurements.
Method 1: The String or Paper Strip Method
- Cut a thin strip of paper or a piece of non-stretchy string approximately 6 inches long.
- Wrap it snugly around the base of the intended finger, just below the knuckle.
- Mark the point where the strip overlaps to form a complete circle.
- Lay the strip flat and measure the length in millimeters from the starting edge to the mark.
- Compare your measurement to the circumference column in our size chart below.
Method 2: Measuring an Existing Ring
- Select a ring that fits the intended finger well. Ensure it is a ring worn on the same finger of the same hand.
- Place the ring on a flat surface with the inside facing up.
- Using a ruler with millimeter markings, measure the inside diameter of the ring at its widest point.
- Compare your measurement to the diameter column in our size chart below.
Method 3: Professional Sizing
For the most accurate measurement, visit a jeweler for professional sizing. At KM Fine Jewelry, we offer complimentary ring sizing at any of our locations. Our gemologists use calibrated ring mandrels and sizing sets to determine your precise size, accounting for factors like knuckle shape, finger width preferences, and the style of ring you intend to wear.

Tips for Accurate Measurement
- Measure at the end of the day: Fingers naturally swell throughout the day due to activity and temperature changes. Measuring in the evening ensures a comfortable fit during peak finger size.
- Measure multiple times: Take at least three measurements on different occasions to confirm consistency. If measurements vary, choose the larger size.
- Consider the width of the band: Wider bands (6mm and above) fit more snugly than narrow bands. If you are selecting a wide band design, consider going up a half size for comfort.
- Account for knuckle size: If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size between the two for a ring that slides over the knuckle but does not spin on the finger.
- Avoid measuring when cold: Cold temperatures cause fingers to shrink temporarily. Ensure your hands are at a comfortable, normal temperature before measuring.
- Dominant hand difference: Your dominant hand is typically slightly larger. Always measure the specific finger and hand where the ring will be worn.
